Who Are My Friends?

This morning we started the day with Wiki Stix.  The kids had some much fun making shapes, identifying colors, and even stringing the sticks together to make a chain.  The hardest part....and maybe the least fun....was pulling them all apart during clean up time!  We are really working on strengthening those finger muscles so that they will be super strong when we are ready to write!!

Ms. Michelle came today and we met her outside again because the weather was SO nice!  First we worked in pairs to bounce balls to each other.  Some of us got the hang of the activity pretty quickly, and others of us made up our own rules!  Either way, there was a whole lot of ball chasing happening!  Next, we took turns through the blue tunnel.  Some friends were still a little reluctant, so we tossed a ball into the tunnel about 3 feet, and they had to go get it.  This got them all IN the tunnel even if we all didn't make it THROUGH the whole thing!  The last activity, was riding scooter boards and....a wiggle riding skate car!  The kids loved it!  You could tell it was hard work to make it go, but they all wanted an extra turn on the car! As always, we ended our session with Ms. Michelle with messy finger play.  Today was a mixture of coconut flakes, marshmallows, and unfrozen plastic ice cubes!  They had sticky marshmallows EVERYWHERE!!  We counted, we stacked, we poked holes, we smelled, we squished.....but there was no eating!!

Today's story was My Friends by Taro Gomi.  This story is about a little girl and all the things that her friends teach her how to do.  She learns to jump from her friend dog.  She learns to climb from her friend monkey.  She learns to read from her friend books.  At the end she learns to love from all her friends!

Our language activity was reviewing all our class friends names and talking about all the things that we like to do together.  We are all becoming really good friends in our class!

For art, we had many different colored hands already cut out.  The kids each selected their favorite three colors.  We shaped those hands into Friend Flowers.  Then each child named three friends and we wrote their names on the hands.  They all did really well recalling friends names....and when they couldn't remember they would go to the bulletin board and point while asking for help.  Some of them were pretty adamant that Mommy and Daddy were their friends and that's what the hand flowers should say!  At this age, it's kinda hard to argue with that....so just be flattered if you see your name on one of the hands!

We ended the day with some wonderful friend songs.....where we talked about all the things we do when we want to meet a new friend and how we should play with the friends we already have.  Tomorrow is another fun day.....can't wait to see everyone again!
