3, 2, 1.....BLAST OFF!

We started the morning off with our first edition of the Wednesday morning OT centers.  It was a learning experience for everyone.....but overall.....it was a big success!  The kids rotated through four different stations.  One center was finding hidden letters in rice.  The kids used their hands and tongs to find the letters.  Some kids named the letters, while others made words and named sounds.  The second center was a touch and feel center that was filled with all different textures.  Soft, rough, shiny, bouncy......and on and on.  The kids had to close their eyes and guess what the object was just by feeling it, describe the texture, and then think of something else that feels that way. The third center was taking start stickers to make constellation letters and numbers.  We were really concentrating on strengthening those tiny finger muscles, but there was also a touch of letter naming and beginning sounds added in.  The last center was a bonus.....but, a big hit!  We made moon shoes out of sponges and tape and let the kids feel what it would be like to walk around on the moon. The kids had a great time and we started the day off very sensory centered!!

Next, we headed off to Ms. Abby.  She was set up outside in the courtyard with LOTS of soccer equipment.  There was plenty of practice passing the soccer ball to our friends.....and stopping with ONLY our feet!  We dribbled across the courtyard, around a cone, and back again.  And, of course, there was kicking into a net.  Lots of fun....and lots of chasing balls around the courtyard!

Today's book was Sheep Blast Off! by Nancy Shaw.  This is a fun story about a mysterious spacecraft lands in a nearby pasture, the lovable, blundering sheep get in gear for the ride of their lives! Unfortunately, these sheep don’t know the first thing about piloting a spaceship . . . but there may be someone else on board who does!

For art today we made our very own rocket ships.....with us as astronauts!  The kids thought this activity was super cool.....and they all spent some time counting down.....and blasting off into space!  What a practical way to learn counting backwards!!
