The morning the Touch and Feel was SUPER sensory! The pool was filled with "frog eggs"....ok, they weren't real frog eggs....but, if you touched them, they really felt like it! (They were actually water beads....thanks to Ms. Michele for the cool idea!) We also had some pretend tadpoles and froglets mixed in to introduce some life cycle vocabulary. The kids LOVED it!
Today's book was Jump Frog Jump by Robert Kalan. In this story a frog tries to catch a fly, but finds himself in trouble as other bigger animals arrive to the pond. As each new danger appears, the frog is left with one option: jump, frog, jump! The frog's final escape, however, requires the help of a boy.
For science we did an experiment to find out about frogs jumping. Each kiddo took a turn and frog jumped. Then we measured how far each jump was and added the information to a chart. Some kids jumped 3 "frogs" long and other friends could jump 7 "frogs" long. It was really fun to watch the kids try and figure out how to make their jumps the longest they could possibly be! Next we compared the numbers on the chart and talked about words like biggest and smallest.
For art, we gave each child a set of frog feet to wear on their hands. We covered the tables with paper and rolled up our sleeves. Using green paint, the kids jumped around the paper and make frog prints! It was a bit hit.....and a BIG mess!! We sent home a slice of the artwork, and one frog foot, should you want to attempt it at home! Warning: it will be messier than you think!!
What a fun week of frogs! Next week....creepy crawlies continues with bugs that crawl!
