The kids played with gloves this morning in the Touch and Feel. It was hard work to get every finger in just the right spot....but with some patience.....several kids made it happen! Things feel different with gloves on, and that was neat to talk about too.
Ms. Abby came today. The two skills we concentrated on were catching and throwing. First we all stood in a big circle. Each friend took a turn calling another friend's name....and throwing them the large beach ball. Then that friend called another friend's name, and so on and so forth. Then we did some partner throwing. I think I mentioned before that throwing isn't an area of weaknesses for most of our kiddos....aiming is a whole different story. We have a few catchers in the group, but clearly it's more fun to run and go get the ball than to actually catch it! Lastly, Ms. Abby had our most favorite game....the parachute! Up and down, fast and slow.....lots of laughing! Everyone took a turn listening for their name and running under the parachute from one side to the other. What a fun way to end our time with Ms. Abby!
Our book of the day was Just Going To The Dentist by Mercer Mayer. This story is all about Little Critter's first trip to the dentist. He has a thorough check-up, complete with dental x-rays. When Dr. Ghum insists on filling a cavity, Little Critter goes through it bravely.
After the story, we made a long list of things we have learned this week about the dentist. The kids did a great job recalling several facts about the dentist office and about brushing their teeth. Something new we learned today was that grown-ups have 32 teeth! That number is bigger than when we count all the letters in the alphabet!
For art, we made mouths with teeth. We used special ART marshmallows for our teeth. Art marshmallows aren't for eating....they are used only for making art. They don't taste good and will make your tummy hurt if you eat them! I am very pleased to say that only TWO marshmallows were complete causalities of the art project! I consider that success! There were circles drawn on the inside of the mouth outline so that the kiddos could make sure that they added 32 teeth. Now....we did loose several down to the hall to dismissal.....so you might have some holes when you get home. Take your pick....we talked about cavities and loosing baby teeth....either idea will work!
